Stephen Bernstein, a Founder and Principal of Cline Bettridge Bernstein Lighting Design, is a graduate of University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School. He also studied at Parsons School of Design. His award-winning work exemplifies his unique ability to blend business and design expertise and to creatively explore the expression of each company’s culture and organization within budget and schedule constraints. STEPHEN D. BERNSTEIN, IALD, IES   PRINCIPAL
  After working as an executive for Bloomingdale’s Stephen joined Incorporated Consultants Ltd., where he met Francesca Bettridge and Carroll Cline. With them, he later founded Cline Bettridge Bernstein Lighting Design. Over the course of his career, he has met the challenges of a range of projects and developed a complete understanding of numerous types of buildings, architectural styles and uses of space. He designed the first law firm to seek LEED® certification and has worked on an impressive list of LEED projects, including universities, offices and resorts.

His innovative designs have been recognized with prestigious awards including the Lumen Award, Lumen Citation, IALD Award of Excellence, IALD Citation, GE Edison Award of Merit, and the A/L Light & Architecture Design Award of Outstanding Achievement. He is the first recipient of the IES NY Section Brilliance Award.

Stephen is a Professional Member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) and a Member of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IES). He has served as the Treasurer and as a member of the Board of Directors of the IALD. He was instrumental in establishing AIA’s Center for Architecture in New York City, having served on the Center’s Capital Campaign Steering Committee and on its Advisory Council. This role was a primary consideration in his recent election to the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) of Green Light New York, Inc., an independent, nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of “high-quality, energy efficient lighting in New York City.”
